[vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/1″][vc_custom_heading]We are going outside for Nature Conservation Actions during the special week dedicated to invasive species! <\/strong>[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]Iberian Week on Invasive Species<\/a> is back! This year, Rota Vicentina has prepared a series of nature conservation activities focused on invasive species education and awareness, taking place between May 13th to 15th.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Invasive exotic species are plants or animals introduced in a place far from their origin and they can quickly conquer ecosystems due to their easy adaptation, effective propagation and dispersion methods and lack of natural enemies. This can reduce the diversity of native species and impact natural resources.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”20435″][\/vc_single_image][vc_column_text]Since 2018, Rota Vicentina has been taking action to control invasive species, specifically invasive plant species \u2013 such as long-leaved wattle<\/a> and sour fig<\/a> \u2013 which are putting at risk important habitats like sea-sand juniper\u2019s (Juniperus navicularis<\/em>),<\/a> Alteirinhos\u2019 Junipers pilot area (in Zambujeira-do-Mar) and Mediterranean Temporary ponds, in the pilot area \u200b\u200bof Malh\u00e3o\u2019s Ponds<\/a>(Vila Nova de Milfontes).[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=”1″][vc_row_inner unlock_row_content=”” row_height_percent=”0″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ back_color=”#d9afb9″][vc_column_inner width=”1\/1″][vc_column_text]In the 2023 Invasive Species Week<\/a> (SEI 2023), an initiative promoted by the Portuguese Network for the Study and Management of Invasive Species<\/a> (InvECO Network), the INVASORAS.PT platform<\/a>, the LIFE STOP Cortaderia<\/a> and LIFE INVASAQUA<\/a> and the Specialist Group in Biological Invasions,<\/a>but carried out in partnership with all entities, associations and informal groups interested in carrying out activities. \nWorkshop on Trichi<\/em> galls[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_single_image media=”20439″][\/vc_single_image][vc_column_text]On Saturday, May 13th<\/strong>, we\u2019ll gather in the pilot area Alteirinhos\u2019 Junipers to listen and learn with biologist and professor Paula Canha, in a Workshop on Trichi<\/em> galls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nHow to protect the Sea-sand Juniper?[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_row_inner unlock_row_content=”yes” row_height_percent=”0″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image media=”20441″][\/vc_single_image][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image media=”20443″][\/vc_single_image][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]On May 14th, Sunday, we return once again to Rota Vicentina\u2019s pilot area Alteirinhos\u2019 Junipers, to discover the habitat that gives it its name and the species that we strive to preserve. \nNative vs. Invasive species[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]Finally, on Monday, May 15th, we\u2019ll have the third invasive species activity at Escola B\u00e1sica n\u00ba1 de Odemira, with an awareness-raising and environmental education action for students. We\u2019ll teach basic knowledge and information so that they can understand what invasive species are and the dangers they represent, through the use of games and content created within the <\/span>Life Volunteer Escapes project.<\/span><\/i>. This action will not be open for registration.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”20447″][\/vc_single_image][vc_column_text]These and other actions within the scope of SEI 2023 will be available all over the country.
